Tiger Woods is named “GOAT” by fans after record-breaking 24th consecutive Masters win

Tiger Woods made history in his first full PGA Tour event in a year.

Woods finished the second round of the 2024 Masters with a par-72 on a windy day at Augusta National on Friday. He started the tournament with a +1 deficit on Saturday and finished in the top 50, becoming the first player in Masters history to play in 24 consecutive tournaments.

There was less than an hour of rest between the rain-delayed final match of the first round and the start of the second round on Friday. Woods looked a bit tired early on, finishing with four bogeys in the first nine holes of his second round, including three bogeys.

He then bounced back with three birdies, including a chip shot on the sixth hole. He finished his round with a putt for par on the 18th hole, earning a standing ovation from the Augusta National crowd.

Woods withdrew after 24 holes from the 2024 Genesis Invitational, his final event on the PGA Tour. If he can complete the Masters, it will mark his first full PGA Tour event since undergoing ankle surgery in April 2023.

That marks the last of a 15-over stretch of surgeries, including some to his right foot and ankle after a car accident in 2021. The absence from the Tour didn’t stop Woods from recovering to qualify on Friday.

The third round of the 2024 Masters begins Saturday. Time not yet decided.

Woods has been looking for the sixth Masters victory and his first victory since 2019. He needs one more win to tie Jack Nicklaus for the most tournament wins in PGA Tour history.
